The final days are upon us. We have twenty-six days left until Exodus (as Adam likes to call it). So. Many. Emotions.<br />
<br />
So, I have a lot of things to update the world on. First, Adam and I have both landed jobs in Athens, Ga! We are so thrilled and relieved to have these lined up before we actually move back home, especially because (more big news!) we've decided to buy a house! Our first house! This wasn't something we set out to do. In fact we had previously been contacting several agents about rental properties around Athens, but none of them allowed big dogs and they were all pretty pricey. I mean what were we supposed to do with our poor Marley Girl?? So those were quickly marked off our list. We then came across this sweet little house for sale and thanks to Adam's knowledge on mortgages, we realized we could afford to purchase this home and our monthly mortgage payment would be HALF of what we would have paid at any of the other rental properties. So Adam began digging and this quickly became a very realistic option. We're now under contract and have been approved on our loan. Who has two thumbs and could not be more excited?? --> this girl. <--<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Our home. <3</div>
<br />
Once we decided on Georgia and not Charleston, Athens actually wasn't even the plan. We had considered living closer to Atlanta possibly near Lake Lanier, but everything literally fell together so quickly and beautifully that now we realize Athens was the answer all along. God thumped our foreheads and then suddenly we noticed the giant blinking neon arrows pointing to Athens. These three very exciting bits of information have been in the works for a few months now but I was a little hesitant to break the news in previous posts because it was just a little too early. Of course things could still fall though even now -- we still haven't signed any dotted lines, but everything is looking very promising!<br />
<br />
I feel like after all of our struggles over the past few years, God is finally handing us our "happily ever after." I think Adam and I both have felt stuck here in Birmingham, as if our lives have been stagnant for a long time ... and there didn't seem to be an escape. There was (obviously) no way we could speed the whole PA-school-process along any quicker but for so long now we've been ready for the "next thing." And we didn't know exactly what or where that was until recently. It's very hard to be excited about the future when you have absolutely no idea what it entails. But now that we know, now that we can finally see what's outside the tunnel, we are beyond excited. And I don't think I'll know what to do with myself once we <i>have</i> arrived. I'll most likely need a reminder that we <i>do</i> deserve the wonderful things that life is bestowing upon us, because Adam and I have struggled and sacrificed so much for so long to finally be where we're very soon about to be. It's all God's timing. I realize that. And although we faced God's challenge and practiced patience for Him, it definitely wasn't easy. My poor husband has put up with more than his fair share from me. I'm mortified at some of the things I've said or the ways I've acted towards him at times ... all in the name of stress. I am so SO thankful for my Adam. A lesser man couldn't have handled my seemingly-psychotic breaks. And if he can handle me during some of my hardest, saddest, darkest, scariest, meanest times, then I know our future is nothing but gold. ;) I am so excited to make this home ours, carry his babies, and grow old with this man who has sacrificed so much for me and us. He has my heart forever!<br />
<br />
Whoa. That got sappy real fast. But it's the truth. School has been hard, and we've been pretty unhappy. I'm very glad things are really looking up for us. We have worked hard, and we do deserve it. So we'll graciously accept our "happily ever after" that's being presented to us on a silver platter and we'll joyfully use it to build the rest of our lives. Athens, here we come!<br />

Shooo... It's been quite a while. Things are changing quickly which is a good thing. Also a scary thing because there are many, many loose ends, but it'll all come together.<br />
<br />Basically to catch everyone up on our lives lately, we're both trying to get jobs and we're looking for places to live. We're moving back home to Georgia. We thought about it, prayed about it, cried about it, and decided that as much as we love the idea of Charleston, it's just not where our families are and as it turns out, that's a deal breaker for us. It makes us both sad. Charleston was a dream for us for so long. I guess it's what kept us going during the hard times in school. We would day dream about our future there on the ocean and we'd feel better, even if just a little bit. But that's that. We're coming home. So anyway, <strike>we've</strike> I've been back and forth to and from home about a gazillion times trying to prepare for our future in Georgia, but we still haven't smoothed out all the wrinkles so that's all I'm going to say about it. I'll update more once we've got more definitive plans.<br />
<br />
One of the more fun and specific reasons for going back home has included going to one of Lindsay's bridal showers! It was beautiful, and I was so excited to give her something that was kinda special and something we both loved! Unfortunately I don't have any photos from the shower. That's Lindsay's fault. :)<br />
<br />
Not related to a visit back home, but just something fun, last Thursday Adam and I got out of the house to go see a Trombone Shorty concert! It was amazing!! We were both so glad to be able to go thanks to my amazing preceptor on my trauma and burns rotation!<br />

He was very talented with the trombone and trumpet! I'm pretty sure this is a shot of him circle breathing. He literally played one note for like 3 minutes with circle breathing! It was seriously amazing and outrageous.<br />

This is us after the concert. We decided to go to Walmart to pick up some pizza. Adam hates Walmart. Hence, his face.</div>
<br />
On Sunday of this week we went to the Oak Mountain Fall Festival, but it turned out to be kind of a dud. :/ Oh well. I <i>did</i>, however, get a foot long corn-dog AND a fried snickers out of it! That was fun. :)<br />
<br />
I guess that's about it for now. I'm getting worse and worse about blogging these days but I've got a lot going on at school and at home. I'm also trying to ween off my readers (all 20 of you) because I'm fairly certain after PA school, I'm going to retire <i>Heads and Tales</i>.<br />
<br />
Anyway, happy fall, y'all.<br />

That's right! We're almost to 100's Night for PA school! Can't wait to be in the double digits ... and then singles. :) Adam and I are going to have to start looking for houses soon! Everything is moving so quickly and it's all so exciting!!<br />
<br />
So, what have we been up to the last few weeks?? Well, we've been traveling home a lot lately, and the last couple of times we've gone out with Bryan and Whitney on their boat!<br />

It's SUPER fun, and not gonna lie, being out on the boat is pretty convincing that lake life near family and friends can be just as fun as (if not more than) ocean life without family and friends near by.<br />
<br />
This past weekend, Adam and I packed up and went out to Pensacola with the pups. We had a great time there, as usual. Here are a few pics...<br />

Lucy, pooped out after a long day on the beach followed by a refreshing bath</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Oh! And there are two big adventures from the beach that I forgot to share. First, we went parasailing! I had never been before, and Adam had only been once. The girl at the counter told us it was like being in a giant swing set high up in the air, and that's pretty accurate. I was secretly a tiny big terrified being that high up because I knew if I fell that would be it, but it was still a ton of fun. I wish we could have stayed up there longer!<br />
<br />Our second adventure we just happened to stumble upon. Adam had googled something along the lines of "fun in Pensacola" and suddenly found something that said "If you're looking for fun in Pensacola, then Rosie O' Grady's Dueling Piano Show is the place to be!" We agreed it would be fun and different so we cleaned ourselves up and were out the door. I'm not kidding you, we stepped off the streets of Pensacola and into a wild wild west parlor. It was frickin' awesome. And frickin' huge, too. This place had seven rooms and nine bars. The entire thing was decked out to be like something from a movie. It was super neat. Adam said it reminded him of Vegas, of course I've never been. All of the servers and staff had fun costumes that fit right in with the feel of the place. And they even had a magician floating around doing private magic shows for guests. We had appetizers for dinner, then headed a few rooms over to the dueling piano show. We stayed there for the rest of the night because it was so entertaining! As it got later and later, the singers got crazier and we really just had a great time! We will definitely be going back there again. It seems like every time we go to Pensacola, we discover something new about the city and we just love it.<br />
<br />
The day after we got back, I went to Mom and Dad's for the week, and that's where I am right now! As usual, it's been wonderful catching up with family, haven't seen a lot of friends though.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I had a very reflective intent for this post, but I'm really just not in the mood right now. Basically, I can most definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's shining very, very brightly. The light is so bright, in fact, that it's a bit difficult at the moment to see from where the light is coming exactly. But day by day, the other side of the tunnel begins to show itself just a little more. I've come to realize that no matter who is the smartest in our class, or the hardest working or whatever, we'll all make it out of the tunnel one by one, alphabetically, as we cross the stage and shake the hands of our faculty members. 105 days.<br />

I love watching the days dwindle down. Just let it keep coming.<br />
<br />
So I haven't updated since 4th of July. We went back home and had a jam-packed weekend! Friday we went out on a boat on Lake Burton with our Head family. It was incredibly beautiful. I'm telling you, it felt like a perfect eutopia out there. The sky was sunny and blue, it wasn't too hot (almost a little chilly), people were out on their boats but it wasn't too crowded, and there were even prop planes flying around. I was definitely in my happy place. I honestly didn't realize how happy I could be out on a lake. I always thought I was an ocean/beach girl. I guess we'll just see how life plays out... :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, Saturday morning, Adam, his parents, and I went zip lining! Adam and I hadn't been since our honeymoon while the cruise ship was docked in St. Lucia. We had a lot of fun flying through the trees. We definitely would love to go back again.<br />
<br />
Saturday afternoon we went to Bryan and Whitney's for a little group get together. We had a great time visiting, catching up, and hanging out in the hot tub. That night, Adam, Bryan, Rickie and I went to a concert in downtown Buford (which happens to be walking distance from Bryan and Whitney's) and we danced our hearts out! It was so much fun!! Bryan bought a boat on Saturday morning so on Sunday Adam, Bryan, and Rickie took the boat out on Lake Lanier (which happens to be 2 miles from their house -- I'm telling you they've got it made). Adam told me it was a perfect day for the guys to hang out together. I'm hoping next weekend we can go back and hang out with them on the boat again. I don't think I've ever been out on Lake Lanier so I'm excited!<br />
<br />
On Sunday I went with Mom and my aunt to the nursing home to see my grandmother. Afterwards we headed back to Bama for my last week of general surgery. And speaking of, I've officially finished it and I really loved it. I was very worried about being in the OR because before this rotation I was pretty uncomfortable with it all. Obviously sterility is a huge deal and I was terrified I would mess something up! But I became very comfortable working with these two particular surgeons. And I was at my favorite hospital in Bham so that made me happy, too. After our end-of-rotation exam last Friday, Casey, Lindsay and I went to Cocina Superior to celebrate another rotation down! Only four to go!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Now I'm at an inpatient psychiatry facility and I have to travel about an hour to get to my site. It's veeeeerrrry interesting. Lots of big crimes have been committed by some of the patients there. So, it's very interesting indeed.<br />
<br />
Anyway, last weekend Adam, Lindsay, and I met Katie, Chris, Cory, and Casey at a brew festival in downtown Homewood. It's always fun spending time with good friends!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10479185_2877603295504_6665559959816968278_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10479185_2877603295504_6665559959816968278_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Yesterday was Lindsay's 25th birthday and, poor her, it started out with a test in endocrinology and a presentation that she had to give.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10346203_2886018105869_2685319429888577307_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t1.0-9/10346203_2886018105869_2685319429888577307_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Afterwards we went out with Casey, Mallory, and Ginny to our favorite margarita place, Cocina Superior. We had a drink and an appetizer there, and then we came back home.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Lindsay and Sadie came over for dinner, drinks, and a dance party at our place and that's how we ended the night! I had a great time, and hope Lindsay did, too. :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In general, I don't like to post photos of drinking, let alone taking shots, BUT, it was Lindsay's birthday, we had both had a rough day as far as tests and presentations go, and these two pics are the only two shots we took. Promise! Anyway I guess that's about it! We don't have any crazy plans for the rest of the weekend, but we do have exciting things coming up in the next few weeks! So until then, friends!</div>

I'm thrilled that clinical year is passing by so quickly! My class mates and I are less than 6 months away (actually 5 months and 1 week!) from graduating, and we are officially more than 1/2 finished with clinicals (with 9 rotations, and Monday starting week 4 of rotation number 5, we're just barely more than 1/2 way, but hey, I'll take it!). Keep 'em coming...<br />

<br />
So what have we been up to? Well, a few weeks back we went home for Mom's 60th birthday! I also took some of my empty pots and planters home so we could beautify them. I was excited about that! And of course it was wonderful to be home for a few days. Here are a few "after" pics of my plants.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
This one needs to fill out a little more, but I still love it!</div>
<br />
Last weekend, Bryan and Jack came to visit, and all three of the boys went to some motorcycle races! According to the big boys, Jack did very well with all the loud noises and fast vehicles. :)<br />
Saturday afternoon we hung around at the pool and cooked out on the grill. Jack is such a cute baby that he got lots of googly eyes from the other people at the pool. And Bryan was such a good, careful daddy with his precious little boy. Here a few pics that Jack took of himself (ok, so I helped him a little) with my phone.<br />

<br />
So with this year (thankfully) being half over, I've tried to stop and think about the things I know I'll miss once we leave Birmingham. So here's my list:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Lindsay living within walking distance</li>
<li>Being able to see the other girls at the drop of a hat if needed</li>
<li>Living in the same city as all my classmates</li>
<li>The city at night. When you're on interstates 65 or 20, if feels like you're on a catwalk exploring the city from high above. You don't drive on the ground level like regular folk. Oh no, you're several stories in the air on a floating bridge, or so it feels. </li>
<li>Lucy and Marley's veterinarian and office staff. They are SO kind and reassuring and understanding. Seriously the best vet I've ever been to.</li>
<li>The butcher shop, Mr. P's. They have hamburger meat that it the BEST I've ever tasted. It's because they take leftover cuts of steak and grind that up to make the ground beef. Seriously. Divine. </li>
<li>Tip Top Grill. It's just a regular hamburger/hot dog/corn dog kinda place, but the views are so fun up on top of the ridge. Sometimes I can trick myself into thinking I live in a little mountain town. We ARE at the edge of the Application Mountains after all...</li>
<li>The ridge behind our apartment in the fall. It's just covered in beautiful orange, yellow, green, and red trees. We get these views from our patio out front, and in the back when I'm walking the dogs.</li>
<li>The views from St. Vincent's Hospital. Rain or shine, I seriously LOVE it. This hospital is huge and gorgeous, and just on the edge of downtown Birmingham. I've been lucky to have two rotations there. There are glass walls everywhere, so no matter where you are in the hospital, you are just about guaranteed a great view. </li>
<li>Highland Park</li>
<li>The Mountain Brook Villages. Katie, Casey, and Mallory all live in Mountain Brook, so I always love driving through these Villages to get to one of their houses, especially around Christmas.</li>
<li>Downtown Homewood ... well all of Homewood actually. The houses are so cute and I love driving around the neighborhoods with Adam to look at Christmas lights. </li>
<li>I also love that Birmingham is a big city without actually being a big city. It's big enough to have all of the really nice shopping malls and stores that Atlanta has, but it's nowhere near as big as Atlanta. Adam and I are very thankful for that.</li>
</ul>
<div>
Things I will NOT miss (I'm glad to report that this list is much shorter):</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Parking on campus = horrendous. Although Lindsay and I now have a carpool pass, and it's helped out a TON having that.</li>
<li>The HORRIBLE roads around town</li>
<li>The almost just as bad drivers. People run red lights around here like it's no thang at all. </li>
<li>Walmart on Lakeshore. It's pretty close to trash in our opinion.</li>
</ul>
<div>
Anyway, there are my lists. So, right now I'm in general surgery and I've gotta admit, I'm loving it way more than I thought I would. It helps that I'm working with a great surgeon, too. We do a lot of fistulas and grafts, laproscopic procedures, hernia repairs... but it's all been enjoyable. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
Next weekend we're heading home and we have some fun and exciting plans! I'll report on that later. Have a great month everyone. That seems to be how long it takes me to blog these days...</div>

Six months and one week from tomorrow I'll be graduating from PA school. Thank. You. Jesus. (Seriously, thank you, Jesus!). I'm getting so antsy!!<br />
<br />
Anywho ... a little catch up on what's been going on lately.<br />
<br />
Sam and Tammy came to see us the weekend of Talladega (they had tickets to the race) and we had a great time with them. We went out to dinner, visited family in Tuscaloosa, shopped, and played around with my plants and succulents outside. Tammy and I added to my succulent lantern. It's hard to see the difference because a lot of what we added was on top, so I don't have any pictures to share. In fact, we took very few photos the whole weekend!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Visiting Tammy's cousin, Gayle, in Tuscaloosa</div>
<br />
A few weekends back Lindsay, Adam and I took our pups to a fun doggie festival called Do Dah Day in Highland! It was so much fun! And I was very impressed with the fact that Lucy was very well behaved. We never have to worry about Sadie and Marley misbehaving because they're wonderful little dogs, but my Lucy can be a little devil. Hence her nick-name Lucifer.<br />

Poor Marley got tired of walking.... No, not really. Adam just wanted to be silly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After Do Dah Day, we took the pups to Rojo to enjoy some chips, cheese dip, and margaritas. We sat outside so that the dogs could hangout with us, too.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That Sunday, I went to Lowe's and gathered the supplies to paint my own flowerpot. I've got a pretty serious obsession with succulents, and I've been thinking about starting a strawberry pot with some hens and chicks that Tammy and I had left over after adding to my lantern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgSkZhCJMcuXQWAV9KL1WQMSGSacWsuVHPOJpYTYMY3PFWR1OuK_f3WypGpaSmSALgmYp8B1l36lj_LVz8wGu4x38cCj9cPuWokR8p4Y5uQIBGd0lkfPUV2omfhlK1pq0vpAyHTyIe7hF3/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgSkZhCJMcuXQWAV9KL1WQMSGSacWsuVHPOJpYTYMY3PFWR1OuK_f3WypGpaSmSALgmYp8B1l36lj_LVz8wGu4x38cCj9cPuWokR8p4Y5uQIBGd0lkfPUV2omfhlK1pq0vpAyHTyIe7hF3/s1600/photo+2.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I didn't want just a regular clay pot, so I decided I'd decorate my own. I really wanted to be creative with this, but the farther I got into the project, the less things were going my way. I had intended to follow Debbie Doo's blog on how to paint your own pot (you can find the post <a href="http://debbie-debbiedoos.com/2013/03/ceramic-and-clay-pottery-knock-off.html" target="_blank">here</a>), but mine was going to be in shades of purple. Here are the materials I used and the first shade of light purple.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0fakg6JKI646q3aH7vFBET-m1CYZfIIJvNGJQAxM2Blq_TgmYsb1h59eTrhrPj8Jymi6MTnKDxbZsUBdXDHqWQHXOXB-pmHguFDXUVwOYyyiF-wroQgXozAgTaDKeJUZIaqRO_Ccs4ZSQ/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0fakg6JKI646q3aH7vFBET-m1CYZfIIJvNGJQAxM2Blq_TgmYsb1h59eTrhrPj8Jymi6MTnKDxbZsUBdXDHqWQHXOXB-pmHguFDXUVwOYyyiF-wroQgXozAgTaDKeJUZIaqRO_Ccs4ZSQ/s1600/photo+1.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVxB_pcQu7So1oV0iDdgC7yrXMpRqBU8LFKnrSt8TBhlIbF-0OsXNVUjmWsdU_XPOUgJoiu4zj_C_E0-8T55nI4f8UYRRzk-kewn1-GlLDJ1SU7foEJrG3BwEhXOqerOZD1jvUmSq3mZSz/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVxB_pcQu7So1oV0iDdgC7yrXMpRqBU8LFKnrSt8TBhlIbF-0OsXNVUjmWsdU_XPOUgJoiu4zj_C_E0-8T55nI4f8UYRRzk-kewn1-GlLDJ1SU7foEJrG3BwEhXOqerOZD1jvUmSq3mZSz/s1600/photo+3.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the blog I mentioned above, she did this neat thing where she used stencils to add wood filler to the pot, just to give it extra texture. I really liked the idea, but I wanted to either use paisley or lace of some kind. Hobby Lobby had cute paisley stencils so I went with those. Here's a picture after I've crackled it once and added a dark coat. Obviously it has the wood filler on it already as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijEU52evLUtqyapLWzPe2d37bWuwIV0e9IS0bcKZApZrN2Jdrp0SkDkCf9AOPMx7vMOEsUpPLfWsxTPi-8Ku0IzURUMSl1yk8nWEYrhOTeePQr3zoy3OP8Ps7lzYMu0eFNHJNgnrFa_b1l/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijEU52evLUtqyapLWzPe2d37bWuwIV0e9IS0bcKZApZrN2Jdrp0SkDkCf9AOPMx7vMOEsUpPLfWsxTPi-8Ku0IzURUMSl1yk8nWEYrhOTeePQr3zoy3OP8Ps7lzYMu0eFNHJNgnrFa_b1l/s1600/photo+4.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well I got close to the end where I was to add the second color...and mine just looked terrible. The colors weren't blending beautifully like Debbie's. I immediately hated it. By this point it already had several layers of paint and crackle medium on it but what was another layer gonna hurt? So I decided to repaint the whole thing with my light shade of purple again, add the crackle medium again (which was actually just Elmer's glue), and then paint over with the dark purple. Again. I finally achieved a look I was happy with, but it sure is obvious that there are plenty of coats of paint on it. Oh well. It just makes it look old. At least that's what I'm telling myself. I might sand over the paisley a little just to make them stand out more, but here's my finished product. It is what it is. And I think it'll do just fine to hold flowers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijnNrbjdUyAxs0vF8BO7ANCl4Oay5Nl-VzoKNJ53ZX7lt0Tb8G3rvVTt9uJ7vB6aX-_RF5ZYinGYvquIyFuYN60iMLXgUJT1sLxbe0_2ZGcpkiWQRJFqWKJRsdVE5lDTdPw1Zh01Aj3Np3/s1600/photo+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijnNrbjdUyAxs0vF8BO7ANCl4Oay5Nl-VzoKNJ53ZX7lt0Tb8G3rvVTt9uJ7vB6aX-_RF5ZYinGYvquIyFuYN60iMLXgUJT1sLxbe0_2ZGcpkiWQRJFqWKJRsdVE5lDTdPw1Zh01Aj3Np3/s1600/photo+(1).JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, our golden beauty says hey in the background.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This past weekend, Jenn and AnnaBelle came into town! Lucy wasn't very nice to either of them, but I absolutely loved seeing them both! We did nothing more than lounge around the pool, watch youTube videos of crazy stuff, drink wine, and catch up. A lot. Oh, and take selfies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/t1.0-9/10305171_10103270254505600_689549729669069813_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://scontent-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/t1.0-9/10305171_10103270254505600_689549729669069813_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my favorite photo from the weekend. And to save everyone from a ridiculous number of pool selfies, I'll just post a couple of our photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I loved having her here. I miss that girl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, that's about it. You all are officially caught up. Have a fantastic rest of the week! Until next time.</div>

So, I finished my first semester of clinicals, which means I'm officially 1/3 of the way through clinical year!! I honestly don't even know what to say or think about that other than I'm so happy that it's going by quickly and I've already learned a TON. I've been very, very lucky to have fantastic preceptors and clinical sites so far and I'm very thankful. I loved the emergency department. Always something different and new, always a surprise, always something to learn from, and always something exciting. I will definitely seek employment in the ED in Charleston. So Wednesday night was my last shift there, and some of the night shift nurses celebrated with me with breakfast and mimosas. It was very sweet of them to come out with me. :) And of course, at the end of each semester comes the traditional photo shoot with my favorite PA girls.<br />

All the girls. :) Katie and Casey are about to load up and head to Montana for their forth rotation! Can't wait to see their pictures!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Anyway, after my end of rotation exam on Friday, Adam and I headed to Georgia. I dropped him off in Atlanta to hang out with one of his friends, and the dogs and I finished the trip to Mom and Dad's. Saturday Mom and I did our usual thing when we're together -- Saturday morning shopping trip! I ended up with some really sweet Yellow Box flip flops that I'm super exited about! Saturday afternoon I went to Lindsay's parents' house for a fun bridesmaids get together. I loved getting to meet her friends! It's always a fun time at the Hale House.<br />

------</div>
I've really been thinking about Graduation a lot lately and I'm getting SO excited. It's coming quickly. I know it's only April (almost May), but if I break it down (which I'll do for you in just a second), if feels like it's fast approaching. 222 days. That's 32 weeks. A little more than seven months. That's nothing. I can do 222 days of anything. Ok, so that's not exactly true. But I can do 222 days of clinicals. Easily done.<br />
<br />
<u>Summer Semester:</u><br />
Dermatology: I get to wear scrubs (!) -- elective rotation, so no end of rotation exam (EOR exam), which means I get a small little study break!<br />
General Surgery: scrubs -- core rotation, so I will take an EOR exam<br />
Psych: core rotation, EOR exam<br />
<br />
<u>Fall Semester:</u><br />
Outpatient: core rotation, EOR exam<br />
Trauma/Burn Unit: scrubs -- elective rotation, no EOR exam<br />
Peds: scrubs -- core, EOR exam<br />
<br />
Graduation: December 5th!!!!<br />
<br />
So, this means I have four more big exams left (five including my boards) before I get to start living a life on the beach, free from tests and papers. G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S. It'll be over before I know it. I was talking with our program director recently and he told me that graduation is a super fun event, equipped with a full bar and everything! Sounds like a good time for sure. We'll be going out with a bang!<br />
<br />
This week I'll be hanging around the apartment, cleaning, laying out and working out cause we're on break! And I'm most definitely going to live that up. Y'all all have a great week. I'll think about y'all when I'm soaking up the sun down by the pool. :)<br />

Not much new here in the Birmingham Head House. Adam has been working, I've been studying and going to clinicals. I've gotta say, I've loved the emergency department -- lots of different and very exciting things that I've seen and done. They may not be too exciting to the average person, but the fact that I've been able to do a lot of this stuff is just awesome to me! I would be very happy with this as a career, and that's a good thing because it pays really well. :)<br />
<br />
We celebrated our three year anniversary a few weeks back, which is of course always special, but being the broke graduate student that I am, we didn't do anything too exciting. Just dinner at home and it was wonderful. I can't even believe it's been three years since our wedding. My facebook status from our anniversary was referencing the fact that I've been in PA school for the majority of our marriage, which makes me sad a little. I hate that I've been hugely stressed for a large majority of our marriage, but I have a wonderful and understanding husband who knows that it will all pay off in the long run. And we are so looking forward to the long run. It's not too far away now ... 7.5 months! Unbelievable.<br />
<br />
Easter is tomorrow, and I actually have to work the night shift tomorrow night. Adam and I have decided to have an Easter dinner tomorrow evening, which should work out with my sleeping schedule. It's been interesting flipping back and forth between shifts, but I really haven't minded it. My schedule for the ED has been easy-peasy compared to some of the other schedules I've heard my classmates complain about at other hospitals. I'm certainly not complaining. In my opinion, I've got it made. ;)<br />
<br />
So anyway, not much has been going on here, other than bunches of cuddling. :) I'll leave you with a few fun pics. Take care! Happy Easter and have a great week! Tomorrow, He is Risen!<br />

Can't believe it's already come and gone!<br />
<br />
Sooo, I've started my ER rotation. I had a lot of fun my first week and I start my second week tonight. I feel like I really lucked out being placed at this hospital for this rotation because they've given me a pretty sweet schedule. This week starts my night shift week. The variety of shifts (evenings, nights, and weekends) that we're required to do will keep things interesting, despite the fact that they may also be tiring. I'll report back on it all later.<br />
<br />
So spring break! As always, it went by way too quickly. We started the first weekend of break in Georgia, for Adam's high school reunion. The reunion was held in a large pasture behind one of his classmate's houses and it was quite an interesting experience to say the least. :) For real though, it was fun seeing everyone I went to high school with, though many of them didn't remember me because their senior year I was only a wee little freshman.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Earlier in the day on Saturday, I met Lindsay in Athens and we went dress shopping! Of course I can't post any photos of her trying on dresses, but I can share this. :) </div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was such fun! And I was so proud of her for being opinionated enough to actually say no to some of the dresses. (For those of you who don't know Lindsay very well, she can't make a decision to save her life. Love you, Linds!) :)</div>

Adam worked from home Monday through Wednesday, and then Wednesday evening we drove to South Carolina to meet David and Natalie. Adam and I stayed at their place Wednesday night, then Thursday morning we all drove to Charleston together and unpacked in our beach house. David and Nat were both so good about taking photos, but I only took a few. I FULLY expect them to post photos and share them on facebook so that I can share them here. :)</div>

HUGE NEWS! Lindsay Hale asked me to be her matron of honor! I'm so thrilled!! Yesterday morning she told me that she wanted to cook dinner for Adam and me so she made some delicious lasagna and came over to watch a movie with us. Before it started, she handed me a very sweet letter, and on the back she had written "Will you be my matron of honor?" !!! I'm totally looking forward to all the planning involved on my part. I just can't stand it! I'm so excited!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hard to believe it, but I've finished my second rotation. Seven more to go! Five more end-of-rotation exams (because I have two electives where I don't have to take an exam). And I have less than 9 months left until school of OVER! Ba-da-ba-ba-baaa I'm lovin' it!<br />
Even though I'm sooooo close to the finish line, I'm tired. Like on empty. Not from a lack of sleep, but from going and going and going and studying all. the. time. Never before has the "Q" word been an option for me, but for the first time ever in the past twenty months, I've considered quitting school and moving to the keys to live a care-free, bum life with Adam as a boat tour guide or something of the like. It'll be warm all year, I'll have a nice tan .... sounds pretty sweet, huh? ... Don't worry, Moms, I'm not quitting. Otherwise all this misery would be in vain, and I'd have stupid amounts of loans with no way of paying them back. So what I think I'll do is stay in school, graduate, get an awesome job in Charleston making ridiculous money, and I'll still be living at the beach. :)<br />
<br />
A few Fridays ago, we went out to dinner for Mallory's birthday and had a fabulous time. KPS made a DELICIOUS strawberry shortcake (Pioneer Woman's recipe), no surprise there. I like to bake some but she takes it to a whole new level. We've decided to lovingly dub her 'The domesticator.'<br />

<br />
Last weekend I worked a gala with Katie Stone to help raise money for their mission trip. It was so fun dressing up and seeing everyone that attended even more dressed up! And it was also super entertaining to watch everyone get tipsier and tipsier as the night went on. :) Katie and Mallory are editing photos, so I don't have any to share yet, but I'll post them as soon as I get them.<br />
<br />
This past Friday we went out for yogurt to celebrate finishing our second rotation. I had gotten a cookie cake from the ladies at my OBGYN office so we ate that as well. Yuuum!<br />

<br />
Yesterday Adam went to the golfing range with Chris (Katie's husband), and then we went to Lowe's and Walmart to gather materials for a little herb/vegetable garden. Here are the final products:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9oMSlXud9nDPbUfhc3vtumbn1hHHkRyEaiFHwUA4bgyI75gTqvROu8gxiuVvkCLPOpOHbHNRz29DVTOMASJtYNy_17meyWLf1Ce26litXbAfk1avdJWV5fji22ou-AZCRLVBvDD5vTvX7/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9oMSlXud9nDPbUfhc3vtumbn1hHHkRyEaiFHwUA4bgyI75gTqvROu8gxiuVvkCLPOpOHbHNRz29DVTOMASJtYNy_17meyWLf1Ce26litXbAfk1avdJWV5fji22ou-AZCRLVBvDD5vTvX7/s1600/photo.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tomato plants in the back left, basil on the right, and rosemary in the front. Adam also wants a jalapeño plant as well.</div>
<br />
This morning we went out to one of the villages in Mountain Brook for brunch and then came back to the apartment to get ready for next week. Emergency medicine starts Monday! I'm excited to see how it goes. I've spent time in the ER before, but not to the level of involvement that I know I'll be here. Anyway, after one week in the ER, my spring break starts! We're heading to Ga (for the first time in two months) for Adam's high school reunion the first weekend, and then on Wednesday we're headed to Charleston for a vacation with David, Natalie, and their pup, Sadie! Natalie found us an a-m-a-z-i-n-g house right on the beach so it's going to be absolutely perfect -- a wonderful and relaxing break from reality. Looking forward to a great few weeks!<br />

Today is a happy day, for no particular reason. I'm just in an exceptionally good mood. I've been relying on God a lot lately, and I can tell that I'm much more at peace than I used to be. I'm beginning to understand just how important it is that Adam and I live in the "here and now" rather than wishing our lives away, and I really think we've done a great job of that lately. We really don't have much longer here in Birmingham, so we may as well enjoy it! He and I are both very content right now and I'm really glad about that.<br />
<br />
I've done a pretty good job lately keeping up with my blog, but as I started thinking about it, there have been quite a few things that I haven't remembered to blog about. So let me do a quick little catch-up.<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago, after we completed our first rotation, Katie Stone, Casey, Mallory, Lindsay and I all met for dinner and drinks to celebrate marking one off our list! We had SO much fun kickin' back a few, sharing stories of our past, and laughing WAY too loudly. I LOVED it. When PA school is all said and done and I'm reminiscing, the first few thoughts I'll have will certainly be those girls. We've all gotten each other through this hell and I love them all the more for it. They're the best.<br />

<br />
As most of you know, another big snow storm hit us not too long after the first one. Lindsay and Sadie came over because we were all so excited about the snow! Thankfully we were safe and at home, so we were able to enjoy it without concern for being stuck. The power went out in our apartment but not in Lindsay's, which is strange. But anyway, we made the best of it. Here are a few pics of our adventures for that night. You've probably already seen them on facebook...<br />

<br /></div>
Also the week before Valentine's Day, Rob and Jenny flew into town to spend some time with their family and friends, and Adam and I were lucky enough to have an entire evening with them! We met them at a BBQ restaurant not far from our place and then we came back to our apartment and played the crazy but hilarious game of Cards Against Humanity. It's always a guaranteed wonderful time with those two. Love that we got to see them! But we miss them already. :(<br />
<br />
For Valentine's Day, Adam got me tulips for our patio planters so we planted those this past Sunday. He and I are both blown away with how quickly they've grown and multiplied! Can't wait for them to bloom! I can tell they're close.<br />
<br />
That day we also went on a picnic with Lindsay, Casey, Cory and the dogs and we had such a fun time! It's been a while since we've hung out with Casey and Cory so it was so fun to see them! We can't wait to do it again very soon!<br />
<br />
Today I'm meeting up with Katie Stone to go out for a walk with our dogs. The weather was reported to be much prettier, but at least it's not raining. It'll be wonderful just to be in Katie's company with their pup, Harper. :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

I haven't posted much about my clinical rotations lately, and that's something I really want to do, just to have something to look back on later. So my first rotation was in inpatient medicine, which means taking care of people who have been admitted to the hospital for conditions that need more thorough medical attention. I was constantly challenged in this rotation and I learned soooo much. I had phenomenal preceptors that kept me on my toes, constantly encouraging me to think "what else" or "what if." I can recognize that I grew a ton during those quick five weeks and I'm very thankful to have spent that much time with the two MDs that I was with.<br />
<br />
Now, in my second rotation, I'm in OBGYN and I LOVE it. So, a couple of thoughts before I share my experiences... I've always had a very strong interest in maternal and child health, pregnancy, and breastfeeding so naturally it only makes sense that I would love this specialty. On the flip-side, I've known that PAs don't fit very well into the field, so I've prepared myself with the understanding that what I experience as a student during this rotation would be very different that what I would actually experience as a practicing PA. In most hospitals PAs can't deliver babies, which restricts the amount of help that a PA can provide for their supervising physician. We can't take their late night calls. We can't run to the hospital in their place to deliver a baby in the middle of a very busy business day. So since we can't make the hardest part of their job a lot easier, we're not really used and that's a shame because I really do love it.<br />
I have absolutely loved prenatal visits during this rotation. I usually go in before my preceptor and measure the fundal height and find the baby's heart beat. It's so fun! Of course I've also loved helping mamas deliver babies and selfishly, I've loved first assisting in c-sections. No one loves to be cut open but it's so incredible bringing a baby into the world, regardless of how it's done. Thankfully I have two more weeks in this rotation and I'm excited about what else I'll get to do/see.<br />
A friend, knowing that I love this stuff, asked me why I chose PA school instead of another similar course that would align better with my interests. I hadn't really thought much about that before her question, but my immediate response was that as much as I love mamas and babies, I love the idea of being a PA so much more. I have other interests in emergency medicine and dermatology and I tend to fall in love with whatever I do. I'm not even a little bit worried about being happy in my career choice, and I certainly don't regret my decision to come to PA school. Plus, (some would definitely argue against this) times are changing and we never know what the future holds ... PAs may deliver babies more globally one day -- it's certainly not unheard of everywhere. Who knows. I have seven more clinical sites, all different specialties, to rotate through and I plan to let my experiences guide me. So I'm very excited about this year and all that it has to offer!<br />
<br />
Ok, I think I'm finished writing my book now. Later friends!<br />

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone, one day late! Adam and I had an evening full of sushi, silliness, laughter and wine. We were both really tired from our busy weeks, so it was an absolutely perfect evening for us. I thought it might be fun to take a few photos, but when we added the pups in the pictures, things became very difficult. So take your pick on which you think is the best. :)<br />

<br /></div>
This morning we went to a yard sale and purchased a few odds and ends. Several of the students in my program, both in my class and in the class below us, are going to Dominican Republic for a medical mission trip, and this yard sale was one of the fund raisers they have organized. So I picked up this fun jewel:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizteWdJaMZEqoy3WZOFXKLZ8Y1ZyeonIQcBigzD9Jmbl1TR6sGykNVve2Zofb_prXV5Gx5toEn0A7TMMy1A5N0VVdNFj_44sQ5TmpI4r2C5zIdxO-gUam-_6i1xGDvInn89lG4fQBMdx6X/s1600/photo+4+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizteWdJaMZEqoy3WZOFXKLZ8Y1ZyeonIQcBigzD9Jmbl1TR6sGykNVve2Zofb_prXV5Gx5toEn0A7TMMy1A5N0VVdNFj_44sQ5TmpI4r2C5zIdxO-gUam-_6i1xGDvInn89lG4fQBMdx6X/s1600/photo+4+(1).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After I bought it I learned it was homemade. I think it's very cute, and it's pretty perfect for my personality. I've been wanting a stool for the evenings so I can sit at the counter and chat with Adam while he cooks us dinner and I think this is just perfect. I know it's something I'll enjoy way more than he will, but I figure eventually when we have a house, it'll fit perfectly in my super girly, super pink and fru-fru craft room. :)<br />
Adam didn't completely lose out on the deal though. He bought a never opened Tom Petty CD that we listened to on the way home. I also got a pair of brown boots and a cute little Christmas ornament with a fun story behind it.<br />
Lucy and Marley came with us to hang out, and Katie Stone caught this photo of Lucy. Silly dog.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This bag was for sale and we were testing it out to see if Lucy would fit in it, but we decided against it. It was a cute bag though!<br />
<br />
This afternoon we're going to grill hamburgers with Lindsay and Jon. It'll be a fun evening of friends, good food and relaxation!<br />
<br />
Oh. One more thing. Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of our first date! How CRAZY! So in honor of that, I thought it'd be fun to share the story of how we first met. For those of you who knew us during the time of our wedding, this was the "How They Met" page. Enjoy! :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
----------</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Her Story</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZxlL5MnxDYhhQQd6i0OQPcyEC2UREmfilK2wdpBTwY2JCXvNPoskOwWVnDRlUyPqfT5nLm4iSx9ykvJFMIywtyGfQxg8doHbcokeP1AOuwStpTxaYJD5irekseaSTGQ2U46pkMb7vvPTn/s1600/Adam+Katie+high+school.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZxlL5MnxDYhhQQd6i0OQPcyEC2UREmfilK2wdpBTwY2JCXvNPoskOwWVnDRlUyPqfT5nLm4iSx9ykvJFMIywtyGfQxg8doHbcokeP1AOuwStpTxaYJD5irekseaSTGQ2U46pkMb7vvPTn/s320/Adam+Katie+high+school.jpg" height="204" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">Adam secretly loved me all along. But it all started in high school. I came in as a young, naive freshman</span><span style="font-size: small;"> and he was in his senior year. The moment he met me, he knew he loved me. He had to deny it, even to himself, because how embarrassing would it be to date a freshman?! </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">Well, as the year went on, Adam couldn't help but call me and flirt with me like a silly little 5th grader. He pulled several pranks on me and during one of them, he practically begged me to go out on a date with him. Now, I'm not gonna lie. I was kinda smitten for the boy, so I was excited. Adam even confirmed this date in his last will and testament, where he bequeathed "one date, maybe more" to me . . . I didn't get the date till years later.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">After Adam's senior year, he ran off to the Air Force Academy. However, he wasn't gone too terribly long, because he absolutely could not stand being states away from me. When he came home, we went out on that date, and poor Adam has been hooked ever since! The rest is history.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">It's that simple.</span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The Real Story</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">What is it about ditsy blondes? I'm not sure, but apparently Adam saw something. The way I recall it, Katie was definitely a typical 9th grade girl with a crush on a senior guy. The senior guy, we all now know to be Adam, really didn't have a clue. I mean, from what I remember, all of the young girls had a crush on him. Even Katie's best friend and maid of honor, Carly, admitted having a crush on Adam. I seem to remember that she would later grow to be semi-romantically involved with Adam's brother. But that's another story entirely. . .</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />Where was I? Oh yes. . . The real story. So, the popular senior, Adam, and the ditsy blonde freshman, Katie, met one day. It was obvious that she was immediately smitten. It might have been the luxurious dark locks, the penetrating hazel eyes, or the way he said her name. We shall never know for sure. What we do know is that she was enamored and flirted with him every chance she got.</span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhevahj61lsm4tY0etjdsqvdHhc8FF147VVSiTpIDN_b5vkNOV0PPvpEu_4qsE19K5fMcawIwp5-sTENMnEdYZt-PIpgw3RjQam7MMHy6GhDqQCHIAHYgE1pt0s4sQznE75NXsavShiVPUy/s1600/katie+old.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhevahj61lsm4tY0etjdsqvdHhc8FF147VVSiTpIDN_b5vkNOV0PPvpEu_4qsE19K5fMcawIwp5-sTENMnEdYZt-PIpgw3RjQam7MMHy6GhDqQCHIAHYgE1pt0s4sQznE75NXsavShiVPUy/s1600/katie+old.jpg" /></a><span style="font-size: small;">One day near the end of Adam's senior year there was a party at his friend's house. With no alcohol involved (they were all pretty innocent at this point) they decided to prank call some friends. How random was it that Adam's best friend, Bryan, happened to have Katie's phone number memorized? </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">They proceeded to call Katie and somehow convinced her that she had won a date with anyone in the school. All she had to do was pick the person. After much pause, punctuated by embarrassing silence, she chose Adam.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Well, she never got that date while he was in high school. However, word got round to him about her request, and he decided to leave her "one date, maybe more" in his senior will. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Fast forward 3 years. Katie's parents hosted a New Years party that Adam happened to attend. After much flirting he decided to take her out on that date. During the date, he promptly made an ass of himself as he slipped in the mud outside of DePalmas on Broad St. It wasn't really his fault though. He had on new shoes, it had been raining A LOT, and his date was absolutely gorgeous. Not the ditsy blonde he remembered from high school.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1/20_539909170580_4319_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1/20_539909170580_4319_n.jpg" width="240" /></a><span style="font-size: small;">A few months later, Adam needed a date for a Valentine's Day dinner that his roommate was planning. At the last minute he called Katie. Of course she couldn't deny his charm and agreed to the date. That night was their first kiss, or so I'm told. They're not very forthcoming with that bit of detail. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">The rest is literally history. They dated, argued, threw fists, kicks, the occasional blade, fell in love, argued some more, and eventually figured out what they wanted. Each other. Now they're getting married. Who knew, right? Ditsy blonde + attractive, popular senior = match made in . . . well, they're a good match. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Now you know the real story. Feel free to ask me questions at the wedding. I'll be the one with the cowboy hat.</span><br />

So I think it's official. The last Brain child (who will actually be named Brain) has been born. My brothers are finished having babies. And I'm so excited to say that I got to watch my last nephew be born! I loved it so much! My SIL manned up and delivered this precious boy without an epidural. I was so proud of her! She made labor look easy.</div>

He was born at 34 weeks so he was required to spend some time in the NICU. He's also been receiving some antibiotics, hence the IV.<br />
<br />
I can't wait to see him again! But of course we had to get back to Birmingham. Although for what, I'm not sure... Adam and I have been cooped up in the apartment all day due to all this snow! And I'm not going to work tomorrow either because school is closed.<br />
<br />
Yesterday was quite an experience. But now I realize that Atlanta had it worse because it's a bigger city and people had farther to go. I'm very thankful that I made it home last night and slept in my own bed, despite the fact that it took me 8 hours to travel 8.1 miles. This trip should normally take 22 minutes, according to google. Lindsay and I happen to have rotations at the same hospital this month, so it worked out well that we were very close to each other for most of our trip home. After about 5 hours in the car, my phone had 3% battery and I started freaking out so I made the decision to park my car and jump in the car with Lindsay. And by the end of the night, I knew I couldn't have made a better decision. I'm so glad we experienced that hell together.<br />
<br />
I thought the best way to remember everything would be to draw it out on a map. So here it is. This is the exact route I took, including deviations to dodge some bad areas. I hope you enjoy reading my story!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are a few other photos that I took throughout the day. There are so many other things I wish I could have captured, but I really needed to preserve my phone's battery. Lesson to learn: always carry a phone charger with you in your car. A portable potty, warm clothes, food, and water would also be helpful.</div>

My view from the hospital. It's normally a really pretty view but the snow definitely made it more difficult to see.</div>

Pedestrians pushing cars up hills on campus. Notice the pure white roads. That's most certainly a thick sheet of ice. I didn't even attempt it -- this was one of my deviations. </div>

Today Adam, Marley, Lindsay, Sadie and I went out to a field behind our complex to play in the snow a little bit. Lucy didn't come because when I took her out this morning to potty, she shivered and kept picking her feet up whenever she stood still. She normally doesn't mind the snow, but I guess today she just wasn't in the mood. Anyway, we had a fun time playing with the dogs and throwing a football around. Apparently this field belongs to a church so we walked up the hill to the church's parking lot to check out the road on the other side. There was traffic, but everyone was moving very slow. We had talked about getting my car today but the roads are still terrible with ice and standstill traffic. Hopefully tomorrow. Here are a few pics. Enjoy!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Adam and I have decided we really want to try and enjoy Birmingham/AL since we only have one more year here, so this past weekend, we got busy doing just that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saturday morning we drove up to North Alabama, heading to a store called Unclaimed Baggage (more about that in a minute), but on our way there, we stopped to enjoy this beautiful waterfall called Desoto Falls.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We decided that had we been maybe 10 years younger, we might have been stupid enough to jump off the ledge and into the beautiful water below (well, had it been warm enough). Seriously, that water was so clear! It was pretty unbelievable. The whole environment was serene and romantic. It was my favorite part of the whole day for sure.<br />
<br />
After we jumped back in the car we finished the drive up to Scottsboro, AL, grabbed lunch at a cute little old-school soda counter, and then finally made it to our destination. So, Unclaimed Baggage is the national center where all unclaimed bags from airports are shipped. It's pretty humorous that this place, where 7000 new items arrive each day, is found in this tiny little town. To be honest, we were a little disappointed with what we found there. Maybe not disappointed by what we found, but we felt like the prices were still pretty steep for used, possibly damaged goods. It was basically just a huge thrift store that was actually kinda expensive. Oh well. It was still fun to go and experience it.<br />
<br />
Today we went to a doggie park, and despite what Adam's facebook post made you think, we took both pups. Lucy and Marley were both a little slow to engage with other dogs, but Marley certainly loved all the attention from the dog owners. And I loved giving attention to other dogs! Such fun therapy. :) Marley found a creek and decided it was calling her name. She stayed there for quite a while ... crazy dog.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anywho, now we're back at the apartment preparing for next week. Adam has tomorrow off, but I don't. :( So to make up for it, I'm eating frozen yogurt covered in an Irish cream liqueur and toffee chips. Mmmmm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Until next time friends! Have a great week.</div>

Oh my goodness, it's been quite a long time. So much has happened since then, so here's a very quick recap:</div>
<div style="float: left;">
<br />
After Adam's actual birthday, we drove home for a surprise 30th birthday party for him that Tammy and I had planned. Although I don't think he was 100% surprised, I know he thoroughly enjoyed seeing and visiting with everyone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicACT3-z9R5Td6o27k_p5Nl_8925aOopwNJsKdeq4AgHRDAB_4lJfPWeiO_x3F5dVBd1g__4N7rTmPk1MlenS97ggRWjqYKtUdQ6ua-XVuGjKxmozG5f-U8W3NccZ0aZgD_lHlxYeFgX3j/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicACT3-z9R5Td6o27k_p5Nl_8925aOopwNJsKdeq4AgHRDAB_4lJfPWeiO_x3F5dVBd1g__4N7rTmPk1MlenS97ggRWjqYKtUdQ6ua-XVuGjKxmozG5f-U8W3NccZ0aZgD_lHlxYeFgX3j/s1600/photo+1.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the only decent photo that I got. :(</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After Adam's birthday, we came back to Birmingham for another two weeks before we trekked back to Georgia for Christmas. During this time <u><b>I finished the didactic phase of PA school</b>.</u> Holy mother, there is no better feeling. I really think this deserves it's own line, so I'll say it again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished the didactic phase of PA school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For a while it didn't even seem real. Like it hadn't clicked yet or something. I was excited ... kinda, but I guess I was also distracted by Christmas crafting and things of the such. But after the new year, it really started settling in. And it feels real, real good. I'm pretty sure I've said that PA school for me feels analogous to climbing a mountain. Well, I really think I've made it to the top. I know that most may see graduation as reaching the top, but in my opinion, coming back down is half the battle. Clinicals = traveling down the mountain. Real life will continue once I've accomplished and attained this monumental mountain known as PA school. Real life starts on the other side. Adam and I are so ready for it! Less than a year!!</div>

So after school let out, I had LOTS of crafting to get done. What better way than to do it with friends?? So I had Katie and Casey over. Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of Casey, but she helped me with my wreaths again. I was pretty happy with how they (and everything else) turned out!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I was pretty busy during my break before Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we made our way to Georgia for what felt like the billionth weekend in a row. Christmas morning we started at my parents' house and then went over to Adam's parents'. Adam sent me on a super cute, super fun, and super creative treasure hunt for my Christmas present from him. I loved reading his little rhythms and solving the puzzles which ultimately lead to my new pearl stud earrings! I love them. :) He's been watching a lot of White Collar, the TV show, lately so he might have been prompted to do this because of that show. Either way, I loved it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We came back to Alabama the weekend after Christmas, and then (surprise, surprise) drove back to Georgia the next weekend. We had not one, not two, but three parties to attend. We made it to all of them! And we had a great time. We drove straight to Bryan and Whitney's Friday night for Bryan's 30th birthday party and spent the night. Then on Saturday we drove home to my parents' and that evening we went to a wedding reception and ended the night at Lindsay and Jon's engagement party. We had a great time at both events!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Sunday we came back to Birmingham and that next day, I started my clinicals! I'm already a week in! It's been terrifying, exhausting, empowering, amazing, exciting ... tons of emotions. This next year is going to be so different than what my classmates and I are used to, and we're all looking forward to that. Can't wait to continue and try out all the different specialties. It'll be a new job every five weeks! Very exciting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the gifts my mom gave me for Christmas is a daily devotional book called <i>Jesus Calling</i> by Sarah Young. I'm only on day 12 (because it's only Jan. 12th...) but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Every day I find that it definitely applies to me, and I'm excited to see how it continues to line up with my life right now and in the future over this next year. I know it'll make clinical year even easier and more enjoyable. Less than a year left! It's exciting to think "this time next year..." because this time next year I'll be finished with school and will either already be in, or will be shortly moving to Charleston. Woo!! Exciting things to come!</div>

I know, I know. I didn't finish my 30 day countdown. But I have a valid excuse. I was with family that I don't get to see everyday and, therefore, didn't open my computer much to blog. My apologies. But to sum up those last three days, I am very thankful to have spent an entire week back in Georgia at home with my family, visiting with friends, and helping both mine and Adam's parents put up their trees. Marley and Lucy loved it, too.<br />

Blurry, but Lucy is a little dancing dog.</div>
<br />
So let's see. As I mentioned in my 30 days of thanks, my parents came to our apartment the weekend before Thanksgiving. Their visit had two purposes. 1) to help me decorate our little apartment for Christmas and 2) to take me back home to Georgia with them. I'm so glad my mom was here to help decorate because everything looks SO MUCH cuter than it did last year. I need an experienced veteran's eye for this sort of thing apparently.<br />
<br />
Anyway, over Thanksgiving break I studied and did a lot of crafting for a couple of different things. My nieces and oldest nephew and I made glitter Christmas ornaments. I made one for myself and one for my sweet friend Katie. My PA school girlfriends and I did a secret santa gift exchange (don't worry, we've already exchanged. No secrets being prematurely revealed here) and that was one of the gifts I gave her.<br />

I think these both sum our friendship up perfectly. We both LOVE Christmas, and we both love drinking wine together. :) I had been on the lookout for a new special wine glass, so she got me one! Love it. </div>

Anyway, back to Thanksgiving break. The other craft I was working on was a ten day countdown for Adam's 30th birthday, which was yesterday!</div>

So yesterday he came home for lunch and I gave him his real birthday present. After that, things started getting much more exciting. His mom ordered a bouquet of balloons for him so I picked them up and took them to Adam's work.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rickie had decided a few weeks ago that he really wanted to surprise Adam for his 30th, so after Adam came home from work, Rickie jumped out of the spare bedroom! They decided to head out together to pick up Chinese-to-go and then I got this picture in a text:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyARfQSSXBf4lU6mao2g10i7lS6vnc0NVKSAyhzglhIm4GQ8b_ihTklCt4A4tAHP4FwqOdAsUpnbIgicQHw8d0j2R36YxTQKJYxqNS5Pdd6dpV-6GAYpeuqayzxKTLqhTqkJtW4yKGKbY4/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyARfQSSXBf4lU6mao2g10i7lS6vnc0NVKSAyhzglhIm4GQ8b_ihTklCt4A4tAHP4FwqOdAsUpnbIgicQHw8d0j2R36YxTQKJYxqNS5Pdd6dpV-6GAYpeuqayzxKTLqhTqkJtW4yKGKbY4/s320/photo+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So we had Hooters for dinner. Oh, and we topped off the night by watching the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. I think Adam enjoyed his 30th birthday. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You know I can't write a post without at least mentioning school a couple of times. So we're FINALLY in finals week. I have two left, one tomorrow and one Friday. And then I'm finished with didactic forever. I cannot even believe it. Not even a little bit. I remember how I felt this time last year as I was finishing up my first semester of PA school. Being at this point seemed entirely too far away back then. Ugh, that makes me cringe. I count my blessings every night and am SO thankful that I'll never have to do that over again. Ever.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two. More. Days. Oh, and only 368 days until graduation!</div>

I'm thankful that Adam is on his way to Georgia as we speak! Can't wait to have him here and celebrate Thanksgiving with two yummy meals with our family.<br />

I'm thankful for a hometown full of kind people. With experience of living in a different state, I can definitely say you don't get that everywhere. I've been out and about in Athens for the last two days, and I'm just loving everyone smiling at me, saying "excuse me," or waving out of kindness. I suppose the approaching holidays could have everyone is a slightly more chipper mood than usual, but I'm not complaining at all. It's very refreshing. Athens, please don't ever change. I love you!<br />

Now, please understand that I'm not trying to be braggy or snooty about the fact that I have one, but honest to goodness, this is the best thing since sliced bread!!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have textbooks on here, a kindle app to read books for pleasure, tons of documents and notes from school ... And it even fits neatly and perfectly in my white coat pocket. I love it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've been using it this week to catch up in a few of my shows via my Netflix app. Seriously, it's the best little device ever!!</div>

Today I'm thankful for my parents and parents in-law!<br />
<br />
My parents are so supportive, so loving, so giving, so protective. And I'm excited that they're on their way here right now to help me decorate our apartment for Christmas!<br />
<br />
My in-laws are so very creative and they have such strong worth ethic! They constantly have a project going on, and whenever I come across a small issue in a project I'm working on, they ALWAYS have a fix.<br />
<br />
I'm a lucky girl!<br />

Everything happens for a reason. The good. The bad. The devastating and the miraculous. There's a purpose, a meaning behind every story that's told. I'm thankful for this reassurance, especially when horrible things happen and it's not always clear as to why.<br />
Please say a special prayer for my dear friend who lost her baby yesterday. Please pray for peace and comfort on her heart.<br />

Today I'm thankful for my pups, my dawghters, my cuddle bugs! Despite the random surprise bouts of vomit and diarrhea they sometimes leave for Adam and me, I am so thankful for them and love them so much! Their sweet hello kisses and wagging tails can turn even the worst day around. Our lives wouldn't be near as fun without them!<br />
